53 Private College Presidents Show Support for FRPAA

The Federal Public Research Access Act (FRPAA) introduced in May 2006, is a bill which would require "federal agencies to publish their findings, online and free, within six months of their publication elsewhere". In July, 25 Provosts of large national institutions issued a letter in support of this legislation. Today in an article in Inside Higher Education (http://insidehighered.com/news/2006/09/06/access) the lead article referred to a letter signed by 53 Presidents of Oberlin Group institutions also in support of this legislation. I am very pleased to report that President Brian Rosenberg was one of the 53. Although a number of scholarly publishers have come out opposed to this legislation, the benefits to making research that is funded by taxpayers available to a broader audience cannot be disputed. For more information about FRPAA see the SPARC Resources Page at http://www.arl.org/sparc/resources/frpaa.html
