International Open Access Week 2014

Coffee, Treats, and Open Access Chat: Arts Commons, Oct. 21, 10am-2pm

October 20-26 is International Open Access Week, an annual global event promoting open access in research and scholarship. On Tuesday, October 21, between 10am and 2pm, please stop by the Arts Commons and the Macalester Library's open access table for coffee, treats, button-making, and to learn how Open Access transforms scholarly publishing and helps showcase Macalester scholarship around the world.

What Is Open Access?

Open Access is a growing international movement that uses the Internet to throw open the locked doors that once hid knowledge. Open Access (OA) literature is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.

Open Access at Mac

The Library at Macalester actively promotes open access to scholarly works. A major component of our open access scholarly communication services is our institutional repository: Digital Commons at Macalester.

Over a Million Downloads!

Since 2007, the total number of downloads from Digital Commons at Macalester now stands over 1 million. This number includes Professor Joan Ostrove's article Social class and belonging: Implications for college adjustment, which by itself has been downloaded over 3,200 times.
