International Open Access Week 2014

October 20-26 is International Open Access Week, an annual global event promoting open access in research and scholarship.

What Is Open Access?

Open Access is an international movement that uses the Internet to throw open the locked doors that once hid knowledge. Open Access (OA) literature is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. Open Access does not mean it is not peer reviewed. The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) includes over 10,000 peer-viewed, high quality journals. See doaj.org for more information.

Open Access at Mac

The Library at Macalester actively promotes open access to scholarly works. A major component of our open access scholarly communication services is our institutional repository: Digital Commons at Macalester.

Over a Million Downloads!

Started in 2005, the total number of downloads from Digital Commons at Macalester now stands over 1 million. This number includes the article The Rise of English: The Language of Globalization in China and the European Union, which by itself has been downloaded over 25,350 times.
